2019 in the Doubleclicks: a beautiful wrap-up!
The Doubleclicks in 2019 - we went from a year of almost nothing to a year of THE BIGGEST STUFF WE HAVE EVER DONE. I don't even know how we made it through!Welcome to a Doubleclicks year-end wrap-up: We've done this in the past but it has been a little while! After we released Love Problems in 2017, the Doubleclicks took a break. We we were going through a lot of changes: I moved to LA, a bunch of personal stuff happened... but really, the Doubleclicks just needed some time. We are siblings and friends first, and being business partners and band members is super fun but we needed to work on it! So we took time off, we got day jobs. We didn't rely on each other for our work and our income and our 24/7 everything. Then, at the end of 2018, the Doubleclicks came back gradually with "You Should Write a Song About That," which a podcast based on our phone conversations. We record our free-form conversations (about our weeks, our thoughts, whatever we're immersed in). We then go off and write and record a song, and then end the podcast with that song related to that conversation! The podcast pulled us back into songwriting. We wrote about the day jobs we had in our time off, we talked about me coming out as nonbinary and my gender transition - and quickly we had enough music for a new album. We had dipped our toes in and found a way to bring things back while still being pals and siblings and ourselves and taking care of ourselves. So in 2019, the Doubleclicks came back with a bang!!! Let's get into the wrap-up of this year...HERE'S WHAT WE DID IN 2019!!1. Released our 6th full studio album "The Book Was Better!"- Funded in a $56,000, 1,191-person kickstarter!- We hit 3 billboard charts including the #1 spot in comedy, all thanks to our wonderful community2. We toured on and off for most of the year -- Including our first tour to EUROPE - holy cow! - thanks to a kickstarter stretch goal!- played over 70 shows on two continents :)- performed for the first time at WORLDCON, San Francisco Sketchfest, CONvergence, plus a bunch of libraries and a planetarium!(do you think the Doubleclicks should play in your town? tell us here!)3. Created some incredible videos!!- made our biggest video yet - I'm Winning - an animated short about nonbinary gender identity featuring art by 16 nonbinary and trans artists![embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAgM1jK8r9Q[/embed]- Made 10 more music videos which debuted on Paste, the Mary Sue, Geek Girl Authority, and LAist!- Even squeezed in some online shows with special guests - our friends!4. Launched our Patreon campaign!- in October we started a campaign to boost our Patreon project! This fall, and into 2020, we're writing weekly songs and our Patrons get to download them and get behind-the-scenes demos in the process! Our Patreon is the big part of keeping our band going and from Oct-Nov we got a big boost from our community to help us make that happen.5. Laser (that's me) did some stuff here in LA!- I wrote and released a book! Crowdfunding for Musicians is a collection of the wisdom I've collected from running Kickstarter and Patreon campaigns for the Doubleclicks and a dozen clients I've worked with in my own company for the last 5 years.- I auditioned for and made it onto a musical improv team through the UCB theater! We're called Power Play and you can see us sometimes in LA!- I produce and host a monthly show in Burbank with my friend Joseph Scrimshaw called Game Night: A Variety Show! (next one is on new year's eve!)- I was also a guest on a bunch of fantastic podcasts! WE GOT THIS! Good Christian Fun! Movies Made Me!6. What now? Our current/upcoming big projects:- YOU SHOULD WRITE A SONG ABOUT THAT (the podcast!) is on episode 25! You can get a new song every week along with a conversation with our pals.- Our Patrons voted that we'll be covering the song "Birdhouse in your Soul" - so we are working on that!- TOUR DATES! We are playing at two big festivals in 2020 - Fest of Al and SF Sketchfest, and we're opening for MC Lars on tour in February! More tour dates are likely coming but not quite as much as 2019 :)The best part of 2019 was seeing all of you in person who we got to see. We got to talk to you about anxiety, gender identity, being sensitive badasses - and about yourselves and your friends, and mostly your cats. Tour is exhausting but it's mostly so wonderful, it's such a vital reminder of why we do this. It's the best thing ever. Thank you so much to everybody who was able to come to our show, or who listened to our song, or posted in our Facebook group or made us a craft or sent us a message - you are all so so great. We love you all and we think that people and love will save the world.Thank you so much, friends! Let's do it (love each other) again next year!xoxoLaser & Aubrey
